Aggressive Bird Play

Professor/student

I agree with your husband’s assessment of him being in a begetter/mate-type relationship and you being in a peer/sibling relationship. There are pros and cons to each of these situations.

As the Most Favored Woman (or MFP), your husband needs to show Rocky that the less-favored person (you) is valuable to him. He can finish this by speaking kindly to you in the bird’s presence and showing you medical man affection in front of him. Rocky needs to understand that your husband considers you praiseworthy of respect.

When Rocky acts aggressive in his presence, he should show his displeasure by saying, “Rocky, No,” silently but emphatically. Your husband should then frown and turn his back on the bird, making it sunny to Rocky that he does not like that kind of behavior. Under no circumstance should he laugh when Flinty acts hostile.

From my experience, peer relationships with parrots chiefly end in aggression – which, I theorize, is because peers provide serious match for mates and nest sites in the future. Instead of being Stony’s peer, I suggest you seek a teacher/schoolboy relationship. Rocky should be patterned to step on and off the hand on draw upon. This training should be done in neutral territory from a neutral perch.

Common redpoll is anything but the norm in Northern Illinois
That's fitting not right. The common redpoll, because of its name, is a species that might tend to be dismissed by birders new to the game. “Conventional” birds just aren't very voluptuous, right? Well, what's common and what isn't depends on where you living.
