There are several Muscovy Ducks that have taken up residence along a canal I live on. I always read that its bad to feed ducks bread since there is no nutrutional value, which I don't. Is sunflowers seeds ok, or they just as harmful? Ive searched numerous Petco's and Petsupermarket and none of them ever have duck food?
It's actually bad to feed them anything. What you read about bread is true. However, even feeding wild ducks healthy food is something you should not do.
Feeding wild ducks makes them far too keen on humans, which can result in malicious people harming or killing them. It also will cause them to forgo looking for other types of food and harming them nutritionally. They may not migrate if there is a readily available food source and will become dependent on you to feed them!
As for your question, seeds are not something that you should feed ducks due to choking hazards. Things like Romaine lettuce & tomatoes are better. Chopped up hard boiled eggs with the shells on are good, too. Basically fruits and veggies.
