Conure Bird Cages - Bird Supplies

Are wrought iron bird cages safe and are they a good material for a conure's cage?

I'm getting a small conure and I see a lkot of wrought iron bird cages for sale. Is that a good material? What are some other good materials for bird cages?

Stainless steel is good but very expensive. Buy a cage with powder coating so that it's nto dangerous to your bird. :) wrought iron sounds ok, but never buy decorative wood cages since a conure could EASILY chew through it in an hour and then escape. Wrought iron is ok for smaller conures, jsut be careufl. You get what you pay for.

Animal sanctuary takes in abused monkeys

In the first instance Primates has taken in four monkeys and more than 30 exotic birds rescued from unsafe conditions in Tennessee.

Boss director Stephen Tello said the animals arrived at the nonprofit security in northern Bexar County Aug. 9 and have been kept in a quarantined precinct.

The refuge, on 78 wooded acres, shelters more than 400 rescued animals, many unwanted pets and examine subjects.

Tello said Animal Rescue Platoon, a national animal protection organization, was removing more than 100 birds from a Tennessee bird mill Aug. 3 when it received a call from Bedford County Beastlike Control about monkeys housed without food, ventilation or H. ARC members removed them.

Before the rescue, a sheriff's deputy rapidly and killed a fifth monkey, a four-year-old Japanese macaque, after it down-and-out loose and bit two people.

Bob Ingersoll, president of Mindy's Reminiscence, an Oklahoma primate sanctuary, asked Tello if he could take the animals. At, Tello agreed to take only one. He decided to take all four after he saw their conditions in pictures.

Biting 1 year old Conure! - BirdBoard.Com - Parrot Message Board ...

I was told that the bird is a little less than a year old and was handled on a daily basis (she rolled over on her back for one of her past handlers). I, a few days ago, got her onto a Pellet diet (Zupreem) and I try to feed her 2 Vegetable Nutriberries and any fruit or vegetable I may have on hand that day. She eats at least one solid serving of fruit and vegetable every day so I'm pretty sure it is not her diet. Also, I provided her with a ladder and I alternate her toys at least every 3-4 days. I also tape toilet paper over her food bowl (So that she has to tear it up) and I try to make foraging toys out of lettuce and what not.. So, my parents bought me a Green Cheeked Conure (I named her Honey) for Christmas (December 24th, the exact day we brought her home) and so far it's been simply enlightening! I had absolutely no idea Parrots were so smart and so with this I had to know everything! I read as much as I could (I probably dedicated 15 of the first 48 hours with the bird to reading) but I am here still getting bitten without any obvious signs of Fear or Aggression from the bird! I am the only one she trusts and the only one she doesn't scream around (she screams when I leave the room) yet she bites the crap out of me. It's to the point where I have a cut on every finger on my right hand and it is really discouraging. I'll open the front door (in which she'll stick her head out or jump down to the bottom if I ask her to) and ask her to step up - no problems here. She'll then look around for a bit and then start nibbling on my fingers. She'll nibble around and then when she gets to a crease or a knuckle she'll just bite really hard! I have for the past week or so gently grabbed her beak, pulled her head up, and looked at her with a mean face saying "No." but she'll just go back to preening and biting very hard! I started to think today that maybe it was just my hands that she didn't like so I put her on my arm.. she bit off a few hairs and then latched...
