I'm having a hard time introducing new foods to my DYzon?
My DY who was always a big eater and willing to try new things now has become a very picky eater and is refusing to make any changes. She is presently eating the Tropican Lifetime Granules pellets I am unable to switch her to Harrison's or Pretty Bird Gold I've tried mixing small amounts in her food however any attempts I've made have resulted in her refusing to eat the Tropican. Waiting until she's hungry enough is NOT an option. It was suggested that I get her to eat plain Yogurt, warm cereal, and cooked veggies, as a treat, but she would rather eat raw veggies and fruits, and runs away when she sees yogurt or warm cereal. I'm very concerned with my zon's new diet and her lack of interest in trying these foods. I've tried everything I can think of including pretending that I'm eating her food that seems to spark some interest but not enough. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
First of all, humor for fun doesn't know what she is talking about! Pretty Bird Gold does not have any coloring in it!
It is a good choice to improve the health of your DY! Probably one of the most advanced pelleted diets for your parrot anywhere! Good choice Alan!
Try warm water in it, just a few pellets, this way it releases the flavor into the air and will help to "tease" your baby! It is harder to feed this (Pretty Bird Gold) to your bird on account that "there is no dye" in the food to enhance the eye appeal. Your bird actually does see color and will adjust her tastes to what she has eaten in the past with that color. So try it plain with warm water or mix a few of her favorite foods in it. Definitely worth all the effort you are doing to get her to eat this. Once she gets hooked on it you both will be much happier.
As for the dye issue in general, and Pretty Bird, it makes me sick to hear some of the comments on here. PB is one of the best producers of parrot food anywhere. Their food dyes are not harmful to your birds (if you chose one of the "other" pellets,) and are important to your birds eye appeal.
