I need to know materials guys! Any ideas? I want to have a screen layer insert that you can shake the clumps out with. Plastic may not be an easy option for homeade building. Any success stories??? Please help me!
Ok you people obviously missed the point here. I have had a cat for a while now. Believe it or not I know what ones are available at the store. I know the prices and the designs. I wanted to MAKE one that's a little bigger. I am not looking to make a patent on it...just want a freakin litter box. If you don't have anything helpful, just don't bother answering.
Have 6 cats at present but used to have many more and wish I would have done this then. Bought about 3' long see-thru plastic container from Wal-Mart that has a white plastic lid. It cost about $10 and is about 14-16" tall. I cut a hole out in the middle of the lid 4" wider than my cat and about 4" longer. To my surprise, they almost all sit on the edge of the lid instead of getting in the box. I only place enough litter in for one day so it can be dumped daily. Am using the litter that comes in a yellow bucket with a blue lid. An outside grass type rug is near the box to catch the litter for the ones who happen to venture into the box but there is so much less litter on the floor than there used to be. I put duck tape around the area that was cut on the lid but you could find some other way to smooth it so the cats don't get injured.

LOS ANGELES , September 23, 2011, A Spring Staff Report --- Whether the proverbial glass is viewed as half full or half empty depends on one's placing and attitude. But either way, there's half a glass left to fill, and the optimist might be more prone to chart new waters for that purpose while the pessimist would maintain the standing quo level of H2O. Yet charting new waters can analyse daunting in an uncertain, fragile economy. Still, such waters run the high seas for those with entrepreneurial spirit as reflected in companies looking to spread and further extend their reach in myriad ways so far this year. Underscoring this spry were several 2011 primetime Emmy Award nominees. For one, chew over the performance of

I need to block my cat from leaving the kitchen area, the only tiled room in the house. The cat urinates constantly on our carpeting which has resulted in costly repair and cleaning. This is a daily thing for her. She has been medically cleared and we have also tried costly behavioral training. Final verdict this is just something she does and we have to live with it. I don’t want to give her away, so this is our last option. If anyone knows a website that I can order a gate from I would appreciate it. The gate has to be tall enough that she can’t jump over it. We have already tried a gate that is 44" Well, considering they can leap straight up 6′ without touching anything, there IS no gate you can use.
What you can do is try something a feline foster home has–get yourself a screen door and fit it to the doorframe of the kitchen. That way you’ve got the see-through area, but can close it and keep the cat out.
Gates work with dogs, but not cats.

Cats are excellent climbers and jumpers, I’m not sure that any gate could contain a cat. I have heard of cat fencing, but I don’t think they make anything similar for indoor use. You may want to consider French doors, or some other type of door. You could remove the carpeting from the house and replace with tile and hardwood, but obviously this is extremely expensive.
Usually peeing in places other than the litter box means illness or that they don’t like the brand of littler, there aren’t enough litter boxes in your house, or they’re scared of another pet in the house. I’m sure if you’ve already tried the vet and animal behaviorist, you know all this.
I concur with the above answers — cats are really amazing jumpers, especially if they’re motivated (and if your cat gets bored of the kitchen, she will be!) And even if the gate is too high to jump over, cats are also great climbers, and she may yet figure out a way around or over the gate. A door is your best option.
