Is there any way to get Cat Spray off of furniture?

I just got a new chair at a garage sale, but when I got it home, I noticed it smelled! I need either an at-home solution or a cheap store-bought alternative. Thanks!

You can make your own cleaning solution by mixing 10% biological (enzymatic) washing powder/liquid with warm water. Rinse thoroughly with cold water and allow to dry naturally, or speed things up by using a hair drier. Next spray the area with surgical spirit (you can buy this cheap at the chemist) to remove any fat residues that that cleaning solution may have missed, gently working this into the fabric with a nail brush. Allow to dry. Test this cleaning solution on a small hidden area first, as it may not be colourfast on more delicate fabrics.

There is no easy answer to the feral cat problem

Susan Swain, of Moline, is an subhuman lover, but that love can only go so far.

Like many homeowners across the country, the Swains are being visited and sometimes harassed by the dozen or so feral cats that have charmed up residence in her neighborhood – some in her back yard.

“They spray our cars, around our yard, dig up our plants, and they have attacked our dog,” Swain said. “They stock disease and we fear for our health and that of our dog. We don't want to have to live with this.”

Both mammal lovers, Swain and her husband David have been actively interested with greyhound rescue groups for years. At one point, they owned six of the rare hounds.

“I know this is a big problem across the country,” Swain said. “People don’t like to see them trapped, but it is not absolute that we have to put up with the damage and health issues.”

Swain said she blames unaccountable owners for the overpopulation of cats. She added that since the housing foreclosure emergency and the economic downturn, the numbers of feral cats has been escalating.
