I have a key stuck in the drivers door lock of an m reg escort, how best to remove it please?
M reg 1.3 escort no central locking.
Unfortunately, the key won't turn. Was wondering if the lock was frozen with the nights frost :(
I am assuming that the key is broken off in the lock. If this is not the case you can stop reading now. If this assumption is correct here is a method that may work to extract the portion of the key that is still inside the lock. If you have a jigsaw blade or coping saw blade that is broken you can make good use of it, otherwise you need to get one. The blade thickness must be less than that of the key so that it can insert into the key-slot. Grind one end of the blade on the edge of the blade opposite to the teeth to a gentle point so that the point is in the direction opposite the direction of the teeth. This means that when you place the blade so that the point is pointed away from you the teeth of the blade will be pointing toward you. Now you can insert the point into the key-slot so that the teeth will be in contact with the edge of the key that has the bumps on it. The teeth should be pointing toward you.Firmly push the blade into the key-slot under the key until it stops. Make certain that the point enters between the key and the bottom of the key-slot. When the blade will go no further with firm pressure, stop. Gently pull the blade out of the key-slot and the broken piece of the key should be hooked by the teeth of the blade and slide out with the blade. Good luck, I hope this works for you.
