Okay so I have an 8 week old kitten ( so they say, but I really think he's about 6weeks ) Anyways, Ive had him for about 24 hours....I have 2 litter boxes in my house......do I have to train him to go in the litterbox, or is it more instictual?? I havent seem him use the bathroom yet....and I checked my house for accidents, but there's nothing in the litterbox. IDK...Im just curious as to if he'll go in there on his own?

Oh, and the box has a little door flap on it....will he still go in there?
Thank you soo much for all the great advice!! I actually just fed him, and immediately took him to the litter box, put him in it...and took his little pay and made him dig. He then started to dig and went potty! :) YAY!! ;) lol
But I still have to get the flap off. He can get out okay with the flap on, but not too sure about in....so I'll just do away with it.
*Paw*..I meant paw, not pay lol

he might be too small to get through the flap. take it off.

and you might need to show him where it is. the rest should be something that comes natural to him.

Pretreaters for stains add extra detergent into the wash, which again needs to be rinsed out. Cushy water requires less detergent.

Puppy, litter boxes and an apartment… HELP? | Urban Place

Im moving into an apartment next month, and there are NO green spaces, its an urban area, so there are no parks close by. I just got a maltese, and he is trained to do this business outside, in a cement area we have in our current house. But my new place does not allow dogs wandering around. The apartment has patios, but they are both ceramic tiles. And to make matters worst, it pours for 4 months straight where i live. (Its like living in a rain forest). So, i was about too give my pup to my mom, cuz she has a large back yard, but she has 2 HUGE dogs, so im kinda worried plus i dont wanna give him away . So im wondering if anyone has had experiences with litter boxes for dogs, i have googled some, but not completely sure about em, or if someone has any ideas THEY WOULD BE APPRECIATED!! thnx! and sorry if its looong!!

Start leashing the dog and taking it for little walks every hour or two.

Litter boxes/pee pads(when used all the time)=nasty smelling homes, apartments, etc.

We only use pee pads for when we aren’t home, and my dogs really hardly ever use them. They wait until we get home, or when my mom comes in in the middle of the morning to walk them some days, to go potty outside.

I have two Boston Terriers that are litter box trained. It’s a huge plus when it is raining or snowing outside.

The litter box training is the same concept as training them to go outside. If the puppy starts to go on the floor… pick it up and place it in the litter box (even if the puppy is done going). Give the puppy a treat and praise him.

When the puppy does number two… place the excrement in the box and place the puppy next to it. Give him a treat with praise.

If you happen to be in the room for an extended period of time with your puppy, keep a close eye on him. If it looks like he is about to go to the bathroom, pick him up and place him in the box. Encourage him to remain there until he goes. Even if he doesn’t go, treat and praise him.
