LitterMaid LM900 Auto Litter Box stopped working after 2 months. Area around plug is heating up BAD. Advice?

Hello!
I'm a LONG TIME LitterMaid automatic cat box user and I was VERY happy with my first one.
After about 4 years of use, it jammed and broke so I purchased a new one from Target.
This on stopped working about 2 months after I set it up and the area around where the AC Adaptor plugs in heats up and I smell "Hot Melt Glue" if you know what I mean.
The red light comes on but the rake won't move and I'm afraid it will start on fire if I leave it plugged in for more than a min or two.
I called Target and they said that since it is over 30 days and I don't have the packaging any more, I need to go through the Manufacturer.
So I guess my questions are:
1. Has anyone else had this happen to their box?
2. Has anyone here gone through LitterMaid's return policy?
I can't find the warranty info on their site (littermaid.com) and the only return policy they speak of is if you purchase the box directly from them... for about $50.00 more than Target, but I know which one I got because mine came with a ramp.
If you have the sales slip, that is the first step. Then look at your materials with the cat box. If there is a warranty card that says 90 days, then Littermaid should make good on it. Sure, Target may have a 30 day return policy, but Littermaid is the one who issues the final warranty for their product.
