Q: Our 2-year-old indoor cat, Mimi (adopted as a kitten from the streets), has never unsalvageable her urge to go outside. She gets plenty of indoor disturb and attention, but the minute a door opens, she tries to spring outside.
She hasn't been outside since we've had her, but it's quite stressful to constantly keep her from unexpressed out. She is very active and energetic and occasionally bites us for no reason. Any ideas for making her more gratified as an indoor cat?
A: Two things are working against you: her age and birthplace. Neither makes for an amenable fix. Instead, as you are already doing, you have to work with her.
Have you thought about an outdoor square, a screened-in porch or window perches that have an enclosed cage that sits casing the window (called a cat veranda)? There are kits you can purchase that give you all the parts needed to restore b succeed an enclosure or, if you are handy, you can easily build one to fit your needs and position.
