SHERRY DAVIS: Crate training best way to housebreak puppy
01.10.11
I have an old detailed T-shirt that reads: "The only thing two dog trainers can agree on is what a third dog trainer is doing diabolical."
Despite that adage, the majority of professional trainers are of the same judgement that crate training is the best and most efficient way to housebreak a puppy.
And yet surprisingly, whether it's out of blameworthiness or frustration, many owners who purchase one for their new puppy often quickly recklessness its use with the crate ending up in the corner of the garage or the next yard tag sale.
Why is it that one of the best tools a dog owner has available, one that is guaranteed to foil ruin and destruction to their homes, such a problem one to use properly?
Countless publication articles and Internet sites give instructions on how to crate procession puppies, yet owners frequently contact me saying that they tried crate training with their dog but it didn't calling, so they opted for another method.
Now they are getting new carpet to replace their urine-soaked and stained one and fall short of the problem fixed or they will have to find the dog another home.
