outside dog kennel to keep the wind out?

I live in michigan where it gets pretty cold in the winter. I have a 10 x 6 steel kennel for my dogs as well as a heated dog house! I am looking for some cost efficient ways to keep to wind from the kennel. I have thought of tarps on the sides, but am wondering if anyone has any unique and cheap ideas for the sides! I already have a roof on top for the snowfall, just looking for the wind problem!!

Go with the bails of hay on the out side of the enclosure. That way you can use them to keep the wind out, and they're right there when you need to replace the hay in the dog house.

You do plan on using hay in the dog house, correct? Blankets hold moisture...which can cause a plethora of problems.

I Failed As A Dog Owner?

I used to take care of senior dogs, i thought i could handle any dog because of all the medical things and time i did for my seniors. i was wrong. i have failed to try to own 2 puppies. i look like someone who’s never owned a dog before. with my border collie mix, i have had one problem after the other since day 1. first physical illness, then aggression. my other dog, jack russell mix, now she is starting to show aggression so it must be me. when i’m walking them, they’re going in all different directions pulling my arms, i have just failed plain and simple. every private trainer is over $200, and i’ve spend thousands already on health issues and training. i cant afford another trainer at this time i need to save my money. my question is what do i do now. they’re 8 and 9 months. should i give one up. believe me i love them and they love each other. but not only can i not figure out how to train them or entertain them but they run my life. i simply don’t know what else to do.

I feel for you. I have an 8 month old puppy and he has been through puppy class and beginner obedience class. The trainer told me that he is NOT ready for the next class. I am not having the problems you are having, he is actually coming along pretty well. But I could not imagine having 2 puppies at once! I know of other people who have done it, but it is much easier to give the first puppy a chance to be well trained and grow out of that puppy stage before getting another puppy. With a 2 year old dog, the pup will learn good behavior from the older dog. But 2 puppies are not learning good training from one another, they are more like partners in crime LOL. I don’t think you are a bad or failed dog owner, you just have so much on your plate at once. Try separate walks and separate training sessions ( only about 10 minutes at a time or they will get bored). I know that is easier said than done because of all the responsibilities you have through out any given day. By working with only one at a time you are not trying to compete with a cute puppy to get your other cute puppy’s attention. Good luck!
