Investigation launched after starving dog jumps out of window in New Bedford
“The depiction of the dog’s ribs is heartbreaking,” said Jennifer Wooliscroft, kingpin of communications for the Animal Rescue League of Boston.Brute control officers became concerned about the living conditions of the pit bull-kind dogs when the one-year-old female jumped out the window of a Dignified Street apartment in what was apparently a desperate search for commons on Sept. 30, Wooliscroft.
After investigating, authorities discovered another pit bull, 4 months old, in the apartment, which was disgusting and flea-infested. Both animals were brought to Cape Cod Veterinary Specialists in Buzzard’s Bay, Wooliscroft said. Officials surmise the animals were left alone for two months.
“We see this too much,” Wooliscroft said. “These dogs are often so resilient and dangerous when they really have no reason to be nice at all.”
The property manager for the construction said the previous tenant moved out two months ago, but had no name or get in touch with information to reach the individual. New Bedford police and the Zooid Rescue League are investigating.
