Anyone have experience with muttluks boots?
This spring we moved into a new house. My dogs get walked at least once a day, usually twice a day. Last winter we didn't have any problems with the snow and ice. However, our new house not only does not have a sidewalk, which means walking in the street, but it is also on a bus route, which means the city will plow and salt our street early and more frequently than the street we previously lived on.
I'm coming to the conclusion that I should probably invest in some good dog boots to protect my dogs' feet this winter. I have tried the Guardian Gear boots and they are worth about what I paid for them (ie my dogs will have worn giant holes in them within 3 days tops). What I really want are the ruffwear grip trex boots because I know how well they work from the experience of a friend who walks her dogs about as much as I do and in the same areas. Unfortunately I can't afford $120 + S&H for two pairs of boots right now. The muttluks are more affordable, I'm just wondering if the leather soles will hold up to twice daily use on roads.
Deanna, I appreciate your experience. However, neither of my dogs mind boots (both have had to wear them for extended periods of time due to medical issues). And they will be walking on road salt for as much as two hours each day. I don't care how tough their pads are, direct contact with chemical salt for two hours will damage their skin and buying boots will be much cheaper than going to the vet for chemical "burns" caused by the salt.
I used muttluks with one of my dogs a few years ago. She would get stickers in her feet and always stop and insist they be pulled out. I liked them and thought they were good quality. However, I only used them when necessary which only amounted to about a dozen or so times but they were not wearing or anything.
