Basset Hound problems ?
I have a problem with my dog though. I have a basset hound & he is 14 years old. Recently his health has gone for the worse. He was diagnosed with arthritis in his front paw so he limped when he would walk. My family & I decided to take him to a kennel while we went to Disneyland. From that point on he did not get up from bed any more. He wets the bed now, doesn't want to eat kibbles & bits (only wants to eat dog treats & human food). He can't even walk any more without me assisting him. Just so you know his back legs are in poor shape as well. I think the reason he doesn't want to walk is because of the arthritis.
My parents want to put him to sleep this week. I really don't want to since I am so attached to him. Any hope anyone can give or even advice? thanks.
I can completely understand as dog owner myself and also having had to make that difficult decision more than once. You may have to love him enough to put your feelings aside and do what is best for your dog. No one wants to lose their best friend, but think how much his poor little legs are hurting him and how he can't even eat...Is that fair to him? Go with mom/dad to the vet and see what the vet recommends...If it is to put him down, you can choose to be with him until the end or wait in another room. I'm so sorry , I am a huge dog lover too!
