Does anybody know anything about the dog food Natures Recipe?
I have a 12 month old boxer and have been feeding him a quality food called Bil Jac very expensive food!! He used to love it but lately he has not been wanting to eat it and his gas has gotten extremely worse boxers have gas anyways but its gotten bad!! So im thinking of switching him to the food called Natures Recipe still a quality food and a little less pricey and wondering if anyone know anything about this food?
First, any time a dog goes through a change like that it is time to see a vet.
Second, Bil Jac is not a good dog food.
Chicken By-Products (Organs Only including chicken liver), Chicken, Corn, Chicken By-Product Meal, Dried Beet Pulp, Brewers Dried Yeast, Cane Molasses, Egg Product, Salt, Sodium Propionate (a preservative), DL-Methionine, L-Lysine, Vitamin A Acetate, Vitamin D3 Supplement, Vitamin E Supplement, Riboflavin Supplement, Niacin, Biotin, Choline Chloride, Folic Acid, Thiamine Mononitrate, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (Vitamin B6), Ascorbic Acid, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Menaione, D-Calcium Pantothenate, Manganous Oxide, Inositol, BHA (a preservative), Ferrous Sulfate, Copper Sulfate, Zinc Oxide, Cobalt Carbonate, Potassium Iodine, Sodium Selenite.
It has by products as a first ingredient and that should not be there at all. Corn should not be there at all. Of the first 3 ingredients 2 of them should not be in a dog food.
Natures Recipe is not the worst food, but certainly no amoung the top brands.
Our pets need quality pet food. Read the ingredients list and learn what the stuff on there is and what it does (or does not do) to/for our pets. A quick pet food 101. If the pet food contains corn/corn products or by products it is a poor quality food. Corn is a filler that can trigger skin problems. (allergies, skin problems, itching and excessive shedding) By products is anything from an animal not fit for human consumption, including cancerous tissue. Do not pay attention to advertising, they all say there food is great. "Vet approved" means they have a vet on staff to approve their product. In other words, someone paid to approve it. Same with foods most vets recommend. Salesmen "gift" vets then the vet recommends the food. Most vets are not nutritionasts! Quality foods have meat as the first ingredient. Wellness, Solid Gold, Innova and Merrick are a few of the best brands available. Boxers are deep chested dogs which are prone to bloat. I do hope you are not feeding him only once a day. Divide his feeding into 2 or 3 times a day.
