Outward Hound Dog Backpack - Dog Supplies

What is the best dog backpack?

We are looking for a backpack for our large dog that fits well without chafing or slipping. We have looked at Outward Hound, Ruffwear, and Ollydog packs but it's hard to tell how they will fit on the dog without actually buying one. Has anyone had experiences (good or bad) with these or other packs?

The old Outward bound hound old style backpack tend to have a balance problem...if you have something in the left pocket, it will shift to the right. If you can balance it nicely, the backpack itself is quite sturdy. I had mine for 3 years and we take it hiking all the time. My dog doesn't mind it at all. (it does get hot for her during summer). The new ones are a 1 piece that appear to be more sturdy. It has some cool reflector and better material. but I haven't gotten a chance to buy one yet. Ruffwear was a little more expensive than outward hound. (you can buy the old backpack online at dog.com, petsmart's website is dogs.com and they sell the new ones) REI the outdoor company sells a few other backpack. i tried one that cost about $30...it wasn't made that good at all. I would go with the outward hound. It's pretty nice and come in different colors. That's what I would buy if I need a new backpack. Mine is still holding up nicely other than the velcro looking a little beat up.
