An augmentation in white collar crime is not unexpected as people are still feeling the pinch of the present economic climate, says Dave Loxton, vice-president and head of the forensics practice at employment and forensics law connoisseur firm Werksmans Attorneys.
A recent report showed a 2.8% grow in white collar crime.
“In some instances employees who have been with a company for years are in a trice involving themselves in illegal activity,” Loxton said.
He said that ashen collar crime had become endemic in the economy over the past few years and South African businesses needed to confront consequential challenges in preventing and countering fraud, corruption and crooked misconduct, particularly when employees were involved.
Loxton also attributed the be nurtured in white collar crime reported cases to improved corruption legislation.
“Another saneness for the possible increase is the greater awareness of obligations in terms of the Obstruction and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act which obliges persons in positions of say-so to report crimes of dishonesty related to amounts of R100,000 or more,” he said.
