Blue Peter presenters settle in to new Salford Quays studio
If Downhearted Peter presenters Barney Harwood and Helen Skelton had any misgivings about being relocated to Manchester, they weren't on show. Not that you could have heard any complaints – Helen was almost fully inaudible for the first five minutes above the noise of the Sea King helicopter that was winning her to the new Blue Peter studios. Barney made his entrance on a jet-ski, dressed in a motif-hugging wet suit.
They met outside the glass-panelled Media Municipality in Salford Quays. "Welcome to our new studio," they said excitedly, though there wasn't much to get feverish about. The area looked much the same as most other urban regeneration business parks: glowing and empty. Still, when the world's longest-running children's show ups sticks after more than 50 years in the same studio, you've got to try to design a little pizazz. Even if the camera crew outnumbers the passers-by hanging around surface hoping to catch a glimpse of history.
Once inside, we could have been anywhere because one TV studio looks much the same as any other. The new set might have been dressed to look a barely more edgy and yoof, but it's still basically a few bits of coloured plastic and metal arranged to look stable and expensive. Shame then, that about 10 minutes into the show Barney clouted part of the breeding with his elbow and it fell on the floor.

I have night-time glasses. There is a pair that I wear in the day, but at night, I take those ones off and put them down carefully by my bed. Then I close my eyes tightly and pull the bed covers up over my head. I have to feel around in the darkness, but I always find my night-time glasses somewhere beneath the quilt. They are bendy, so I don't have to be careful with them. My night-time glasses always match my pyjamas and they are made of a very light material that is soft on my skin. The people under the bed love practical jokes most of all. Every chair in the world under the bed has a whoopee cushion on it, and there is plastic dog-poo hidden in all of the food. People are always offering me sweets there, but I can never take them because they turn my mouth bright blue. All of the ink disappears there, so I can never write anything down. All of the toilet bowls are covered in cling film, and all of the fruit is made of wax.
