Neither do his dogs, Jake and Buddy.
Karppe is unhappy of errant rifle fire coming from the near-lawless Rancho Bonito resources, which sits adjacent to his land in far northwestern Polk County.
To hand, the side of his son's home, which sits on the edge of Rancho, has bullet holes, demonstrate of recent shootings.
"It can happen any time," Karppe said. "It's not all right to go out."
Karppe, who has lived on his blueberry farm since 1984, said he is knackered of living in fear and wants county officials to do something about the developing problems.
"It's gotten out of control," Karppe said. "If they (county officials) tried to take a break it, someone would get shot over it."
Rancho Bonito was once a pleasant and peaceful recreational neighbourhood where property owners could enjoy the natural surroundings of old Florida forests. In fresh years, though, the 1,132-acre property has devolved into a subject to-for-all of ATV riders, car thieves and scofflaws.
What was once a rural, scenic countryside in the Green Swamp is now a collection of burned out boats; mud pits; and webs of roughneck dirt roads littered with broken beer bottles and eject bullet and shotgun casings.
