Do UV rays travel through untinted glass?
I have a UV bulb on my marine tank and someone at a petstore told me that the UVs traveled through my glass top (untinted). Is that true? Or do I need to take the glass off?
No it wont!!! The light will pass through but 99% of UV rays are filtered through the glass, remove the glass. Also make sure that the light is to far away from the water as the further you go the less uv there is.

I purchased a 150 gallon tank off of craigslist. It is a glass tank and was set up for saltwater at one point. The gist I got from the kid is the tank belonged to his dad, his dad died and they let the aquarium just sit for several months full of water and it slowly evaporated out. My problem is there is a milky white haze from the top of the glass down about 7 inches where the water evaporated over time. I'm guessing it's a mix of hard water and salt deposits. I have tried to clean it off using the following. Vinegar and razor blade, clr, lemon juice, rubbing compound and finally tried a product called glass scrub that I got from the auto parts store. NONE of these has removed the film. Does anyone have any ideas?
