Black light aquarium.?
So I am getting another 29 gallon tank soon so I can set up a fresh water black light aquarium. I was wondering what other types of fish besides glofish could be used in said aquarium? What kind of fish are compatible with glofish? I think this tank will be a nice addition with my other 29 gallon, and I am really excited to see how this turns out. So, advice on fish to put in it that are compatible, plants, etc.
Thank you. I was considering for gravel black with neon multi-colored pieces mixed in, brightly colored decorations, and heavily planted. I might add different types of fish even if they don't react to the black light, since the black light will only be on for a couple of hours before switching back to the normal light. So I also need to know which fish would be compatible with glofish.
Also, I would never buy dyed or tattooed fish. I think that's so cruel.
Perhaps the best option would be a school of about 10 Neon Tetras. While they don't actually glow under blacklights, their stripe (for which they are named) will be absolutely stunning. A pair of Rams would also do quite nicely, as they have lovely iridescence that will be highlighted by the blacklight, and stay small enough to pose little threat to the other fish. Also, if you're thinking of using live plants (it sounds like you are) rather than fake ones, make sure that the "normal" light you have, in addition to the blacklight, is appropriate-- most plants will not do so well under the standard fluorescent tubes that most tanks come with (especially in taller tanks, as there is more water the light must penetrate).
