Maritime Upgrades Include a Huge Shark and Ray Touch-Tank

It will be easier to impassion sea creatures in a new touch tank for sharks and rays in February, after the Maritime Aquarium finishes a $4-million renovation plan begun Monday.
The extensive renovations should "significantly and transformitively hard cash the Maritime Aquarium to improve our exhibit experience, improve our caller experience," said aquarium President Jennifer Herring before a "base breaking" ceremony that involved the launching of toy sharks rather than august digging. These are some of the changes:
After the renovations, visitors will have a "public school-bus-size" interactive map (36 feet long and 12 feet drunk) of Long Island Sound they can play with, an elevator in place of of the staircase in the hall where seals are exhibited, and a different way of getting around the edifice, aquarium officials said.
