Female Guppy Fish - Fish Supplies

how to differentiate between male and female guppy fish?

how do i differentiate between a male and female guppy fish, tell me the most characteristic features of differenciation... and also when shall i introduce the fry in the aquaruim with all others after birth?
Do the females have the gravid spot always, or only when they are pregnant? And i observed a gravid spot in a female guppy the day i bought it from the Market, and seperated it in a different bowl, alone, so that the other fishes do not eat the fry. Am i doing right?!

The Male guppy has a larger fan-tail than the female, The Females will have a dark spot, toward the base of the tail, this is called the gravid spot and gets darker when the female gets pregnant. I always wait to introduce the fry when they are to big to be ate by the other fish.

Lone female guppies 'boost numbers'

Pet owners have been warned about the consequences of releasing fish into the impractical following new research into the ability of one species to multiply in new habitats.

Scientists found that releasing a one female guppy into open waters can generate an entirely new population, even if no males are around.

The guppy's talents to reproduce has seen its numbers increase "dramatically" over the last century and it is now found in every continent except Antarctica.

But researchers have warned that even the well-intentioned delivering of unwanted pets can contribute to the loss of biodiversity in freshwater habitats.

Biologists at the University of St Andrews and the University of the West Indies teamed up to survey the guppy, whose ability to keep on reproducing has earned it a reputation as one of the world's most invasive fish.

The prevailing ornamental fish, whose native home is Trinidad and the north-eastern border of South America, can now be found in more than 70 countries.

Help, fish dying!

Ken, it says in the aquarium info that the tank is planted but only a nitrate testing was posted and no nitrite which leads me to believe that it wasn't tested for? or maybe she is confusing the 2? It would really be helpful if you could post the results from the nitrite test? I am thinking that if your nirites are high it may be causing the death..Idk I'm new to this lol..
