I searched pictures of parrot fish on google, and all them read
parrot fish-cichlid... I'm confused... Is that just another name for a parrot fish?? Maybe it's just how the picture is named, or is it something else??
Thank-you!! :D
There are three types of parrot fish.
Some are marine - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parrot_fish
There are two cichlids called parrots - the true parrot cichlid, Hoplarchus psittacus and the horribly deformed, and often mutilated and dyed, hybrid cichlids often sold as blood parrots. http://cichlidresearch.com/parrot.html

The biggest dilemma is overcoming newcomers lack of concern for the fish by buying, for archetype three orandas because they have three kids. They want them all at once and will not cycle a tank well - is it really the retailers issue (should they stop the sale) or is it beyond them (after explaining) and a make a difference for the law to stop them? Your idea of competency testing prior to selling livestock is huge, but as you point out unfeasable. Perhaps more prosecutions should be made of these people? Even a law change to certify every petshop displays a notice to the effect that they can be prosecuted for fallacious keeping would help, especially with given examples of what not to do. Of undoubtedly an easy free guide to fish keeping in general would escape, but it would have to be goverment funded. I always find it very strange basic fishkeeping skills have to be passed on by parley of mouth as so many books go into too much detail and retail for higher cost with the demean priced ones not really covering
