as for the sump and refigium, it sounds complex but it is really simple. and dont let size scare you, i researched fpr 9 months before i started my first saltwater tank, a 5g reef tank, did excellant until we had a prolonged power outage. it can cost alot more, Garf.com has a way to make your own live rock, thats a huge expense. most anything but the tank, skimmer and lights can be completely DIY for next to nothing. there are DIY skimmer plans, but i wouldnt try that, and lights can be custom built for your canopy
