What do they do to the fish on fishtanks in supermarkets?

You know, the live fish on some aquarium on the meat section. Are they being sold alive or dead? If they're going to end up dead anyway, then why do they have to keep them on an aquarium? Why not just kill them and then display them on a large freezer like the rest of the fish on the meat section?

Supposedly it's to keep them fresh.

It doesn't.

Those fish are starving and choking on their own waste. How is that fresh? The fish are consuming nutrients stored in their livers and fat, so we don't get those nutrients. The fish are absorbing ammonia, nitrites and nitrates from their own waste that they are swimming in.

The fish are in those tanks because people are stupid, that is the only reason.

Owning Tropical Fish Tanks

Owning tropical fish tanks and maintaining these is only the beginning of your responsibility as a fish owner. You should also be able to choose and add fish optimally into your tropical fish tanks.  Here are some tips:

1. Check for fish compatibility first before buying anything. You can do this online or by talking to your fish store representative. Some fish can’t get along together and get so aggressive toward each other. You need to keep your tank as harmonious as possible.

2. When buying fish from your local fish store, observe their tanks. These tanks should be well-maintained. After all, a well-maintained tank means that fish in it are healthy.3. Select healthy looking fish by observing their fins and gills. Look out for visible damages.

4. Let your fish bag float in your tank water first before releasing the fish into the water. This introduces the fish to your tank water’s temperature. Do this for at least 15 minutes.
