can i use sand in my fish tank with MARINELAND PENGUIN 200 BIO=WHEEL POWER FILTER?
I HAVE A 20 GALON TANK WITH A 30 GALON MARINELAND PENGUIN 200 BIO-WHEEL POWER FILTER. JUST BOUGHT THE SAND FROM MY LOCAL PET STORE AND PLAN TO ADD IT TOMORROW! IM JUST WONDERING IF I WOULD HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE FILTER?...SHOULD I BE WORRIED ABOUT MY FISH DYING?I HAVE CICHLIDS AND A FIRE EEL AND WOULD LOVE TO GIVE IT THAT SALT WATER LOOK!//SO I GUESS IM ASKING HOW DO I ADD THE SAND, AND IS THERE ANYTHING I NEED BESIDES THE MARINELANS PENGUIN 200 BIO[WHEEL POWER FILTER? ANY SPECIAL FILTER CARTRIGES? BIO BALLS? WHAT EVER? CAN I EVEN USE MI MARINELAND PENGUIN 200 BIO-WHEEL POWER FILTER?>?????? PLEASE HELP ME!!!!! 911....
i dont' see why not, as long as it's not undergravel. Pay close attention to the temp. salwater is very difficult and must stay at an even temp at all times. Cichlids are fresh water so the Penguin is fine. NO SALT though!!! Cichlids need aeration as well (bubble bar),. As with any fresh water tank, make sure you have the fish that match what you have. Cichlids are agressive.....No sand , you must use rocks. IF you want salt water, trade in the fish and start over.
2) Do people break off a piece from the hood of the tank, so that it fits nicely around the bulk of the filter? I have noticed a section along one edge of the hood that looks sort of like a dotted-line, cut into the hard plastic. 0_0 Am I supposed to remove this section? OH. I just googled, and stumbled across the answer! OK: new question: how to cut this out w/o warping the hood? an exacto-blade? oh wow........ I now see what you mean! Sry, that I didn't understand earlier!!!!!!! OK, I now understand that there is no piece that can control the flow of the water through piece 8, and through the filter system! Piece 6 just regulates how much MORE water you want to be pushed through! In my case, I definitely don't want to INCREASE the water that's pushed through~! So............ maybe I could just attach pieces 5 and 8 together, and say that i'm done XD
