Oscar Fish?

I have a 75 gallon fish tank and im almost done with the cycle. I would like to know everything that anyone could tell me about owning an oscar.(pros and cons) I would like to know which fish I can add as tankmates and which that wouldnt work. Any info would be highly appreciated, thanks.
Oh and i don't have the oscar yet because of the cycling process course, but in 2 weeks he will be in the tank.

The other two answerer's said they need tanks to themselves as adults, and the other said they are aggressive and will not tolerate anything else in the tank. While this can be true, it is usually because of the size tank they are living in. As in your case, if you were to keep a Oscar in a 75 gallon tank as a juvenile and have tank mates, you may have problems with aggression in the future.

A 75 gallon tank is only big enough for a single Oscar, and you should not try to keep anything else with him. If you have a larger tank, like a 125, you could have a Oscar and one or two other fish with it depending on what they are. I know it will look ridiculous at first when the fish is small, but when you see the same fish in two years time you will understand.

As far as taking car of them, tank setup, and everything else that you will need to know, I could tell you a lot, and if you have any specific questions, feel free to e-mail me. I have two Oscars in a 150 gallon tank, they have a few other tank mates and they all get along fine. I do have to commend you for cycling your tank first, most people don't do this and the fish they get tend to suffer for it. Good luck.

The Oscar fish are also known to grow at a fast rate. Once, they grow, they require a lot of space. These need at least 30 gallons of space each. The optimum temperature should be around 26-28 degrees C. The Oscar fish are known to change colors when they begin courting.
