Reef lights: what does 50/50 mean?

I am thinking of getting a power compact light, either a Blue Life USA SPS Power compact 65W 50/50 light bulb, or a 50/50 Power Compact Lamp 65W.

What does the 50/50 mean, is it like you can have the daytime light and a nighttime light? That is probably a really stupid question, but I am asking it anyways. Which would you recommend for a 10 gallon FOWLR tank with maybe a few mushroom corals or zoanthids. I am still in 'research' mode at this point by the way, (obviously)
Thanks so much for the help!!!!

If you look at the power compacts, there are 2 tubes that are connected. A 50/50 is 1 that combines the blue actinic and a white 10,000K into 1 bulb.

These only come on together, you can't have 1 come on at 1 time and the other at a different time.

If your fixture has room for 2 separate tubes, you can put a 50/50 with a 10,000K and have them come on separately. Some people think an actinic makes the tank look too blue, so that's a way of cutting back on the blue tint. But if you like the blue, and want to have the blue on by itself either before or after the white light is on [or both] you can use a 10,000K and an actinic and not use a 50/50 at all.

Another reason to use a 50/50 over an actinic is if you're keeping corals that live closer to the surface. The actinic is what the water would look like at a point deeper underwater.

Shocker: Power demand from US homes is falling

NEW YORK (AP) — American homes are more cluttered than ever with devices, and they all emergency power: Cellphones and iPads that have to be charged, DVRs that run all hours, TVs that bearing in mind explain up in high definition.

But something shocking is happening to demand for intensity in the Age of the Gadget: It's leveling off.

Over the next decade, experts expect residential power use to drop, reversing an upward trend that has been almost uninterrupted since Thomas Edison invented the new-fashioned light bulb.

In part it's because Edison's light bulb is being replaced by more proficient types of lighting, and electric devices of all kinds are getting much more unwasteful. But there are other factors.

New homes are being built to use less juice, and government subsidies for proficient in energy savings programs are helping older homes use less power. In the transitory term, the tough economy and a weak housing retail are prompting people to cut their usage.

As a result, many families can guess their monthly bills to remain in check, even if power prices be generated. For utility executives, who can no longer bank on ever-growing exact, a major shift is under way: They're finding ways to profit when people use less power.

Sony HVL-HFL1 Combination Video Light & Flash for Camcorders | The ...

Those video lamps that use separate batts are like a gas range (working with LPG), they have their own power. In this case, though those lamps don’t use camcorder batt, if your lamp batt runs out, you know what to do.

This accesory, I repeat, needs AIS to operate. According to the included documentation, it may not work properly with camcorders that have a built-in flash, although they have AIS (I don’t believe this, but better get the HVL-HL single video light for those built-in flash cams). -High batt consumption. With the small batt, when off you have 97 min, when on, perhaps 45, and with a “normal” use, maybe nothing. Well, approximately it reduces by a half the batt life, depending on which batt are you using. You must upgrade your cam’s batt to a more powerful model in order to use this without a batt hurry. -Auto video light mode turns off the lamp past 5 min, even if recording.

But overall this video lamp/flash is worth the money. I recommend it if you own a cam like the mine (DCR-SR82). Two things to consider: try to use the light just when necessary to preserve batt, and perhaps it could be better if a LED type video light would be released. I love this camera and went a little overboard and started buying everything that fit on this camera. Lenes and Flashes . . Batteries. This camera is just perfect as it comes. Now that I spent all my money on these other addons I wish I didn’t. Toys are fun and this camera is tons of fun as-it-is.

Bottom line: This flash is great but not needed because of it’s price tag. It will definately help indoor video but might become a little too bright for people if you’re too close. The flash is great to avoid red eye.
