protein skimmer?
is a protein skimmer required for a 75 gallon saltwater tank that is a fish only tank?
I'd say yes. You could use a Skilter 400 filter, but I'd suggest a separate skimmer.

Home up a protein skimmer isn't overly difficult, but there are some pitfalls to be avoided. In this affair of Mr. Saltwater Tank TV, I ...
I showed you how to set one up, now I show you how to dial it in so that your skimmer runs at supreme efficiency.
My Tunze 9002 Protein Skimmer
Here is a curtailed personal history of marine aquariumkeeping, leading up to refugium use.
Mid-1960s. In the 1960s I lived in the Philippines and worked for "Lollipop" Earl Kennedy, a salt-water livestock wholesaler who used raw natural seawater - and a lot of it. At his careen location, he actually scooped up seawater in buckets and poured it into one end of tanks. The aquariums overflowed back into the sea. Additionally, he acclimated to screens hung over his boat's side to collect plankton, which was old to feed captive stocks.
Late 1960s. In the latter 1960s, I was working as a retail clerk at Polka Dot Nursery and Aquarium in San Diego, California. We had two aquariums in forebear for marines, and they had protein skimmers on them. Selling skimmers was difficult because it was inhuman to convince customers of the new technology, especially with competitors decrying their use as supererogatory and even deleterious.
1970s. Ozonizers are a further "hard sell" through the 1970s to boy, though they have tried-and-true filtration value, and are in use in almost all public aquariums and aquaculture facilities.
So I'm going to replace my old sump and put in a refugium. I don't have a lot of space so I'm probably going to have to replace my skimmer also because of the dimensions of the refugium. The footprint for the skimmer will have to be no more than 10x9. I was thinking about a BK 180 mini for my 140gal tank. Will the skimmer be strong enough for my tank? Any other suggestions on a skimmer? Suggestions will be greatly appreciated. I've looked at quite a few protein skimmers...trying to find one that has that small footprint yet that can handle a tank my size tank with a good bio-load. I have noticed that the skimmers with the pumps inside really helps with the footprint. I've heard quite a few good things about the BK's...yet I'm not to crazy about the price. I saw the Reef Octopus that has a similar design...I've heard of that brand before but never personally used one...seems to be good product. I was curious if anyone has seen others with a similar design...I've only seen those two.
