A thrifty Halloween
WOODSTOCK – With Halloween only around the corner, local thrift shops are experiencing a crunch of last-minute customers.
Thrift store employees say, teeth of slim pickings when it comes actual prefabricated costumes, those with a ingenious spirit will have no problem putting together a memorable and unique costume.
"While costumes have been picked over during the last month, people are looking to the other aisles," said Michael Szala, aide-de-camp manger at Goodwill Community Store and Donation Mid-point.
Szala said their inventory includes lots of retro fray, including 1970s and disco garb.
"A lot of people are looking for wigs, enchanting hats and jewelry," he said. "A lot of people start with a wig and bod from there. Long and blonde, you've got yourself an '80s rocker, long and furious, and you go to witches. Men, if they feel comfortable with it, can go in drag.
"There are brave souls out there."
Both the Goodwill and Salvation Army stores still have fusion and prom dresses in stock, which can easily be translated into a believable zombie bride or even Carrie, a courage from the 1970s horror movie.
