does 20 pounds of sand be good for a 10 gallon?
well's 20lbs enough?
It needs to fill the bottom with three inches so the crabs can burrow under with out their shells sticking out, the sand should be sand castle quality as far as how much moisture is in it.
You may want to add a bit of eco fiber to it, they like a earthy feel to it. The depth is important to the molting crabs for sustained darkness so they release the molting hormone and to satisfy their urge top dig with out disturbing the things on the top of the substrate

Retreating Coral in Reef Tank
01.01.70
About a month ago I purchased a immature open brain coral for my 10- gallon mini-reef. About three days ago it retreated and hasn't expanded again and I'm vexing to figure out what is wrong. I'm using a skimmer and 15 pounds of get along rock for filtration, and two 15-watt lights (an actinic whitish and an actinic blue). I've got various mushroom polyps, which are all instantly multiplying, and a fox coral that is doing quite well. The only other tankmates honourableness now are three shrimps, some hermit crabs and some turbo snails.
Ammonia and nitrites are zero and nitrates are below 10 parts per million. The pH in the tank is about 8.4 and the temperature is between 76 to 78 degrees Fahrenheit. I hard cash 1 to 2 gallons every month and add Combisan and magnesium supplements. I also add a Seachem calcium postscript. I use activated carbon for two or three days a month.
The coral was doing well and fully expanding for the first few weeks I had it. One lesser area that was damaged (necrotic) when I bought it was almost healed. Then I needed to when all is said remove my green goby and purple firefish for a month to quarantine them in a tank treated with copper for ocean-going ich. I had to move the green open brain coral in order to grab the fish. The coral receded and hasn't expanded since. Basically, I'm at a disadvantage. Is it normal after being disturbed for a coral to retreat for three days? What about the two "ribs" on the upper hand on tenterhooks of the coral that have whitened?
A whopping $1.02 for my daughter's two aquarium souvenirs | Mighty ...
by mbhunter
As I mentioned in the roundup, we all were at my wife’s oceanside quilting retreat. I came down to watch my daughter for the weekend, and our main activity on Saturday was going to the Virginia Aquarium .
It was quite a treat: 700,000 gallons of aquarium as well as sprinklings of other kinds of habitat. What an incredible display of marine life it was. Some of the staff was there to assist us in touching a few things: horseshoe crabs, hermit crabs, and stingrays, which were our personal favorite. (If you’ve never touched one, they’re a little bit spongy on the back.) We also saw some sharks, dozens and dozens of other beautifully-colored fish like the lionfish, as well as some seahorses. It was well worth the price of admission.
My daughter really likes “little” things. She gets this naturally from her mother. Outside of the exhibit area there were hand-crank machines for making elongated pennies . We put 51 cents in the plunger in the top (two quarters for the cost of making the elongated penny, plus the penny), and the machine squeezed the penny through a press and made a design on the front and back. The elongation happens because the penny only goes through in one direction.
So for a total of $1.02 my daughter has two elongated pennies: one with a seahorse, and one with a stingray, her favorite.
The aquarium is intermittent down into different rooms and regions. From a look at marine existence living in Ohio lakes and rivers, to a hands-on take tank. "You get a chance to touch sea stars, sea cucumbers, hermit crabs, horseshoe crabs, sharks and rays.
100 years of d'Arenberg winesA catchy name helps, too from punters' girl Stump Jump to the more exotic Love Grass, the Hermit Crab, Avid Pixie and Laughing Magpie, just to name a few. There are dozens of them and in inside info by the middle of this year the count will reach 60
