Zoo builds trap to lure gator out of reservoir

Pittsburgh zoo workers are in the fixed stages of building a trap to catch an alligator living in the Beaver Run Reservoir in Westmoreland County.
Henry Kacprzyk, curator of reptiles at the zoo, said his cooperate was working Tuesday and Wednesday to create a 7-foot-fancy, 2-foot-wide, and 2-foot-tall wire fool to catch the cold-blooded creature.
"I'm confident we'll be qualified to trap it," said Mr. Kacprzyk.
Workers at the Municipal Authorization of Westmoreland County, which owns the reservoir, first learned of the gator about a month ago, when a contractor spotted it.
Authorization executives had intended to let the animal, thought to be a discarded pet, die when aloof temperatures hit but reversed their decision last week following a unshrouded outcry on Facebook and a spotting of the alligator near a shoreline.
Pittsburgh zoo workers, including a medic, traveled to the Metropolitan Authority's office in New Stanton for the first time Tuesday to mixture out a plan for trapping the gator. They later traveled to the reservoir and scouted parts of the shoreline adjacent where a security guard saw it on Monday.
