Man charged for housing reptiles
Newsoms, Va. (WAVY) - A Newsoms man faces charges after lodgings reptiles in his home and backyard.
Investigators from the Department of Nervy and Inland Fisheries found two alligators and 23 box turtles at the severely of 31-year-old Jason Holloman.
Holloman is charged with against the law possession - over the limit of box turtles and illegal possession of lifeless animals.
Police said Holloman housed the alligators in an indoor aquarium on the backside of his firm. Holloman also built a wall around his backyard so the turtles could inch freely.
Virginia state law states a person can own no more than five domestic species, in this case box turtles. It is illegal to possess or buying alligators in the state of Virginia.
"We're fearful of folks doing absolutely what they typically do," John Kleopfer, a biologist for the Department of Diversion and Inland Fisheries, said. "They have them for a few years, they outgrow their ubiquitous 55 gallon aquarium, and then they tip them in a local body of water."
