Why did mini frogs die? Did they need an aerator?

I have a betta fish and when I ask the pet store (Walmart Pet Dept.) what others would be good company with my betta they told me Ghost shrimps or the mini frogs. So I got 2 ghost shrimp and 2 mini frogs. They have plenty of space in their tank. After about a week and a half the 2 frogs died. They were active all the time. Was it the betta food? Did the frogs need different type of food? Did they need shelter away from water?

Okay, frogs breath air, they don't have gills. You have to give them a way to get out of the water or they get tired of swimming and drown. At walmart you usually won't see a rock or anything because it takes awhile for the frogs to tired enough for it to make a difference. (sometimes a week and a half :) Either get a rock or a plant and only make your water 8 inches deep. Also they don't eat beta food. Ask your local pet store what food to feed. (Not walmart cause they don't know and walmart doesn't carry frog food anyways)

Buying the Frog-O-Sphere for $39.95 gives you two African dwarf frogs, Living Gravel and a bamboo plant, all in a tiny aquarium. The gravel supposedly converts excess food and waste into something that can be used by the bamboo, which in turn provides oxygen for the amphibians. You also get a year’s supply of food and a cleaning tool. (A quick search shows this used to come with a snail to clean the tank, but I don’t know why it’s not included any more.)

So, what’s the problem, aside from the potential risk of bacterial infection, including salmonella, which is why Brookstone says it’s not the ideal gift for young children, the elderly and folks with compromised immune systems?

First off, I’m not a big fan of pets being sold at the mall . It just gives me the sense that they’re being marketed to people who haven’t really thought ownership through.

Frogs were left to languish in stagnant water that was murky with feces and molted skin. They were so desperate for food (our investigator worked there for weeks before anyone was seen feeding the animals) that they were chewing on each other’s legs, causing wounds, infections, and, eventually, loss of limbs. Live frogs were left on the floor to die or—mistaken for dead—tossed aside, including into the trash, by employees who had received no training.

I often disagree with PETA’s message and its tactics, but is anyone really surprised that a mass distributor of relatively cheap animals has found it more economical to treat them as less than breathing, feeling, living things?

But, for the sake of argument, let’s say these allegations are unfounded — that these little frogs make their way to your home or office well cared for and in perfect condition — what then?
