I really want a pet mini turtle but how do i care for it?
OK well a lot of people say that you need at least a 20 gallon tank but i don't think that they meant small turtles because my friend has one and she keeps it in a small plastic container and a little rock. SHe got it when she was 9 and now she is 12 and it is still alive, and at the pet store i saw this mini pool thing (bout 10 in wide and 3 inch deep) with a little palm tree and a rock and it said mini turtle home. Can i get that instead of a 20 gal tank, oh and i also have a 10 gal tank where i keep my fish.
Thank you guys and dont worry if u think u were too mean on your answers constructive critisicm is good and im not getting a turtle because i dont really want to waste all that money on turtles and if i dont and buy the pool thing well i would never do that because im obsessed with animals and i would never dare to lay a finger on them if it would hurt them, srry if i sounded a little uncaring for the turtles they are really cute and i wanted one badly but im not going to torture a turtle just to look at their cuteness. Ill get a turtle when the habitat is REALLY ready.
There is no such thing as a ''mini turtle''!!!!!
That '' mini pool'' thing you saw, was a lagoon.
They should be outlawed, i can not begin to tell you how cruel those things are to put a turtle in!
Turtles get HUGE, even if you get a musk turtle, which is about the smallest, they get around 5 inches as adults.
and you dont just need a 20 gallon tank if you get a musk turtle you will need a 50 gallon tank.
If you get a slider or cooter or painted, you will need a 90 gallon tank!
they get the size of a dinner plate!
Turtles are expensive!!!
did you know the require a uvb/uva lamp? that cost $40
They require artificial sun!
they need a heater, a filter, a large basking area.
I have spent probably $500 on my turtles
And it doesnt end there, turtle require a balanced well thought out diet, its not as simple as buying fish food
if kept properly, they will live fo 40 years are you ready for that commitment?
Im not telling you not to get a turtle, they are wonderful!
and all reptile keepers have to start somewhere,
but please please do more research!
as you do your research and learn, you will see that your friends poor turtle has been sentenced to life, hes to sit in that bowl,
without swimming, chasing the minnows around the tank, he just has to sit there till he dies!
