More and more striated bass, mostly 5- to 8-pounders, push into the system from the bays. Anglers find unexpected success catching them, depending on the wind, cleanliness of the water and the tide.
Sovereign salmon are moving through, as well, but 70-degree water isn't hospitable and the fish won't rebuff. The exception was a 20-pounder caught Monday not quite Vieira's Resort. Salmon are simply blowing through and not holding up until reaching self-control water in the 50s and 60s above Hamilton City.
Cut bait such as shad or anchovies trade for striped bass anglers on the anchor above and below the Rio Vista cross over. There is so much grass floating in the Sacramento River, however, that it is tough not to get fouled.
Barry Canevaro of Fish Hookers Sportfishing in Isleton said trolling seems to be improving at Decker Archipelago and Broad Slough, especially for deep-running lures like P-Profile, Yo-Zuri and Rebel. It's difficult to hook stripers 10 pounds or greater.
