A FISHERMAN was sinistral shell shocked after a surprise encounter at sea.
Ian Clarke was a mile off shore within a mile of Silecroft with his brother Keith Clarke and nephew Daniel Clarke when they spotted a bizarre shape approaching the boat.
Mr Clarke was reeling in a mouthful when he noticed what he thought was a seal approaching the 15-foot utensil.
He spotted a ridged shell and identified the creature as a turtle.
Mr Clarke of Stock Exchange Street, Millom, said: “I’ve been fishing for about 30 to 40 years and I’ve never heard of them being seen in this area before.
“It was about 20 yards away and was basking on the skin. I started the motor and headed towards it and it turned round, its prime minister came out of the water, and it swam towards us.
“It looked bigger than 10ft.
“As it came closer you could see the ridges on its back. It was unimaginable.”
Voting Question: Turtle (RES) basking area problems…?
I had a nice floaty basking platform, but my turtle decided it would be a good idea to start to eat it. I have no idea why (I definitely feed them enough, but that’s not the issue here…). I really cannot find anything else on the market that is A.) be able to support the weight of two 7 inch RES, B) Strong enough to avoid ending up in Mink’s stomach, and C) Tall and sturdy enough to poke out of the water and not tip over when the turts climb on it. Please help me find something? I am unable to craft my own, for various reasons.
My tank measures 35.5 in (90.2 cm) long, 17.5 in (44.5 cm) wide, and is usually filled with 8.5 in (21.6 cm) of water. I know their tank is does not meet space requirements for their size, but theres nothing i can do about that as of now, so please don’t yell at me for that
I have no preference between a solid rock or floating platform as long as it will support my RES and not damage the enclosure.
