Can I have a chinchilla in a cage next to a guinea pigs cage?
My boyfriend will be leaving on vacation for a week and I will be babysitting his chinchilla. I have a guinea pig, and the only place I can put him is in the room next to my guineas cage. Can they be next to each other, even when they're in different cages?
I don't recommend it, because chinchillas are nocturnal and piggies are not. What this means it the chin will be awake all day with the constant noise from your piggy and visa versa. You could end up with very grumpy animals by the end of the week. The previous posters where serious when they said chins chew everything, so make sure there is nothing close to it's cage that it can chew on or pull into it's cage. I recommend a bedroom or someplace very quite during the day, and also some place very cool as anything hotter than about 75 is to hot for them and can cause seizures.
