FROM ration pooches with a fondness for pants to pacifying irate hamsters on the Paul O’Grady Show, Marc Abraham’s amusing tales from his career as a vet make him the ideal host for this year’s LovePets Show.
Marc, who will be extremely recognised as resident vet on ITV’s This Morning, Daybreak and BBC Breakfast Talk, takes centre-stage at the two-day animal extravaganza in Peterborough this October, which welcomes people who are peppery about their pets to enjoy a great-value family day out.
Over the LovePets Show weekend of Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 October, Marc will be giving red-hot talks covering a wide variety of pet topics, answering questions from the audience and sharing anecdotes from his days as a vet on call in an predicament clinic.
“The LovePets show is all set to be a brilliant family attraction because it highlights so many contrastive aspects of the animal world in a fun, interactive way,” explained Marc. “For exempli gratia, there will be assistance dogs demonstrating their working skills, including director dogs, hearing dogs and Pets as Therapy (PAT) that are charmed to visit people in poor health. There will also be reptiles and birds, unfamiliar creatures and some particularly strange-looking insects!
A MAN was lucky to escape serious injury when hunting for two lost hamsters.
Simon Dinning was trying to rescue missing hamsters JoJo and Matilda when he had to be rescued himself.
The 30-year-old plunged through floorboards in his ground-floor rented flat in Gateshead into a basement he didn’t know existed.
His fall was broken by a pile of rubble, leaving him with a bang on the head, neck and back injuries.
After a pal’s efforts to lift stricken Simon out failed, the fire brigade was called.
Four firefighters climbed into the basement and, with the help of paramedics, put Simon on a spinal board, then lashed it with ropes.
Colleagues in the bedroom above then gently hauled stretchered Simon through the hole in the floor. He was taken to Gateshead’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital where X-rays revealed he hadn’t broken any bones. “They were worried I would be left with neck or spinal injuries, but it’s muscle damage. I’ve got lots of bruises and I’m sore all over,” said Simon, back home recovering in Bewick Road, Bensham, after Friday night’s ordeal. “I’ve got painkillers but it is probably going to feel worse before it gets better.”
Simon, his partner Stephanie Twentyman were at home with one of her three children Harry, nine, when the hamsters made a dash for freedom from their cage. They’d done the same the night before and the family had seen one of them reappear from the floorboards.
Stephanie, 32, pulled back the carpet and Simon lifted one of the floorboards, which was loose. to investigate.
“Suddenly the floorboards gave way and I fell through the floor,” he said.
“I landed on some rubble. I tried to lift myself up and fell back. My neck and back hurt and I couldn’t move. My friend Ryan, who is 17 stone and full of muscle, tried to pull me out but couldn’t. While I was lying there Matilda climbed out and JoJo ran past me but I couldn’t reach him and he disappeared,” said Simon, who is full of praise for his rescuers.
